Tea Association Goals
REGULATIONS & LEGISLATION
To anticipate regulatory and legislative trends, formulating enlightened positions and interacting with members accordingly. To serve as the voice of the industry before state, federal, international and regulatory bodies, acting in a leadership, proactive role. Our concerns include labeling regulations, FDA issues, ISO, international regulations, packaging, customs regulations FTC and social and sustainability issues.
COMMUNICATION
To provide continuing and complete communication with our members concerning the activities of the Association and our industry while engaging in a continuing dialogue with the membership regarding their needs, their objectives, and their concerns. We will achieve this through regular communications, social and business forums, questionnaires, and educational opportunities. We will strive to collect and improve a body of knowledge about tea and about the industry that will serve as a central source of information and an authoritative answer to questions.
INNOVATION
We believe the creation and innovation of new ideas and programs will be of increasing importance in the future. We will strive to innovate new programs to enhance the growth and well being of the industry on a continuing basis. Areas of particular interest in this regard include product, packaging, health, and international affairs. Where appropriate, we will engage in research to better understand and support related programs.
MEMBERSHIP
To increase and broaden the membership of our Association both horizontally and vertically. To accomplish this, we will continuously update a list of prospective members, create communications that identify the advantages of membership in our Association and, through a variety of vehicles, bring those advantages to the attention of prospective members. Simultaneously, we will actively communicate with members to share information regarding programs, industry activity and the accomplishments of the Association. The rich legacy and history of the tea industry along with the unique mix of domestic and international involvement will be nurtured and communicated. We will provide forums to promote better business relations that will be a mix of social and industry subjects. We recognize the continuing importance of active participation in the affairs of the Association by members and will strive to foster further involvement.
GROWTH
Encourage the increase of tea consumption in this country and provide services that may lawfully help to increase the quality, efficiency, profitability and well being of the industry.
INTERNATIONAL
Our industry and our member companies operate in a uniquely international environment. This provides a measure of the unique and interesting character of our Association. In this environment, legislative and regulatory issues may be expected to move from one country to another, and it is important that we understand and act upon these issues on a global basis. Continuing communication with other associations, Tea Councils, international agencies, producing countries and other interested parties are essential in this effort.
INDUSTRY STANDARDS
To protect the interests of tea (Camellia sinensis), the tea consumer, and the tea industry in important areas of concern. These include labeling issues, deceptive advertising or product claims as well as a variety of other potentially harmful practices. We will actively cooperate with appropriate governmental or regulatory agencies and will monitor their proposals and probable trends. While others propose standards, we will work diligently to assure that any resulting regulations or standards are balanced and fair to all. We will provide voluntary industry standards, where appropriate, relative to commodity standards, labeling, packaging and the like.
